Inspire. Create. Share. 2014

Instagram Selfie It’s Saturday night at the end of Stampin’ Up! Convention.   The official name is Inspire. Create. Share.  2014, but I think most everyone, including Shelli (the company co-founder), was still calling it convention.

No one else I know from Camarillo was able to attend this year.  In fact, it turns out no one I know from my up-line was able to go except one person.  More on that later.  Anyway, I rented a car and stayed about 9 miles south of the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City.  It was kind of nice getting away on my own.  There were plenty of people to talk to and I didn’t feel lonely.

I kind of missed the traditional entry for opening for the first general session.  Usually a large group of Stampin’ Up! staff line the entry and applaud the demonstrators entering.  But they made up for it by introducing the staff teams and then they brought us all a stamp set to start off convention.

I made 110 swaps and thought I had one to keep until I sorted through my haul and found 2 more that got mixed in.  Now I have lots of samples and ideas to inspire, create, and share.  🙂

Swaps Haul

20140719_210123We got the new catalog and we were able to see all of the new products and try (and even buy) some of them.  We could have picked them up at convention but I chose to have my products sent to my home.  I can’t wait until Tuesday when Santa (who wears brown shorts and drives a truck) brings them to me!  I can give you yours August 29th.

I loved the way they did the Make & Takes this year.  I was able to finish most everything and just put the finishing touches on the few I didn’t get done.

Here’s the haul I got from Stampin’ Up!

Convention Haul

One of the classes I took was how to use Instagram.  I’m not sure if I’ll be a regular there…  maybe.  But I now have an account and I’ve posted a picture or two there.

I spoke with Libby from the Compliance Department about my “Stamp Out Fussy Cutting.”  I’ve been going back and forth on whether I should check that out with Stampin’ Up!  I’m glad I asked.  It was not a clear cut answer.  It’s OK to use the e-cutter, but is it OK to sell what I cut?  I’m know I can’t copy the stamp images, as they’re copyrighted, but is the outline taboo also?  Are the cut-outs a competing product though we don’t sell cut-outs?  I’m not offering anything that has a coordinating punch, die, or even comes in My Digital Studio as an SVG file.  Other demonstrators sell cut paper and put together kits with partial packages of ribbons, etc. even though we do sell card kits.  Libby will check with her boss and get back to me.  At least I’ll know, one way or another.  I sure hope I get to stay in business!  Update:  No, Stampin’ Up! considers the cutouts to be a violation of their copyright.  Boo hoo!  So sorry.  I have discontiued them.

Last night was awards night.  I was pleased and proud when Cindy Schuster was named to the Artisan Design Team again this year.  She is in my up-line somewhere and we ate lunch and dinner together during convention last year.  She was one of the ones that inspired me to get this “dot-com” and become more active online.  I’ve enjoyed reading her blog this year.  Well today when I was cruising through the display boards one last time I saw her.  Not only did she say hello, but she remembered my name and thanked me for the Paper Sampler Paper Sampler I gave her last year.  Wow!  That was one of the high points of convention for me!  Check out her fabulous designs.

I am always amazed at the creativity shown on the display boards.

And here’s that “one last” swap.

I hope to see you at next year’s convention July 22-25!

And now to lay me down to sleep.

  1. i can’t remember if we were sitting behind you in opening session or you were someone walking by but my friend swapped my card for me with you. LOL. i was a little shy at first. she got me to get over that. but i missed my early morning swap and felt awkward at first asking others to swap. so she did it for me. she grabbed some great cards and yours is one of our favorites.

    • No need to be shy! Your card is lovely and nearly everyone is friendly at convention. I’m glad you got over being shy quickly! Swapping is a lot of fun and it’s a great way to get inspired. And it’s also a great way to have samples with stamps and other products that you don’t yet own. I hope you had a wonderful time at convention. Perhaps we’ll run into each other again next year.
